A Texas Love Story

Novelist Larry McMurtry (The Last Picture Show, Lonesome Dove, Books: A Memoir, Terms of Endearment, All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers) and Faye Kesey, widow of the late Ken Kesey, surprised a few folks in the literary world when they got married in April. I just saw a few beautiful photos from the Texas wedding, courtesy of Zane Kesey, who said it’d be okay for me to share them here.

Awww, right?! Looks like a really sweet scene … and here’s a shot of the bride and groom, in what I imagine must be Larry’s own bookstore.

Best wishes to the happy couple!

McMurtry goes way back with Ken Kesey. He was in the Wallace Stegner fiction class at Stanford with Kesey and also Robert Stone.

In his book “All My Friends Are Going To Be Strangers” he describes the Merry Pranksters as “The New Americans”, and has a funny scene with the Pranksters all piled on top of each other in some fit of group paranoia.

In the home movie of the Further trip, Kesey and the Pranksters stop in Houston to visit McMurtry at his house.

So I suppose he knew Faye pretty well.

  2. Hello Faye,
I remember you when we were “song leaders” together at Springfield High School in the ’50’s.
You were a girl with a peaceful personality.
God bless you and your family.

  3. Awesome.

My friend Rommel Bondoc had a crush on Faye, when they lived on Perry Lane, students at Stanford. Kesey was outraged, and banned Rommel from talking to her. Such characters.

RIP Larry. I Love your writing. You are like Stephen King, another genius who doesn’t get his due.

  4. To this day I remember Faye’s kindness in letting stay st the Kesey farm for a week when I was in need. Her quiet kindness at the exact moment of need has strengthened my life snd I can go back to that time as needed for a refreshment if the soul when it wearied.
